Tough Cubber is a new event, the brainchild of Northern Region Assistant Commissioner, James Lehane. The goal was to give older cubs an opportunity push through with badgework and also get a taste of the Scout Section and typical Scout activities, all done in an atmosphere of greater independence than is usual in the Cub Section.
Working in “patrols” and cycling through a range of bases, the Cubs took turns being the Patrol Leader, and tackled a range of fun team events and challenges. The activity bases included First Aid (run by Kama leaders), knots/ropes, Cub-of-War (tug-of-war), and the favourite – navigating as a team through a “minefield” whilst blind-folded. All the Cubs at the Medics in ACTion (Dropbear Attack!) base had a grasp of the essentials of first aid. More practice as they continue through scouting (and life) will see those skills improve.
